Born during the final years of World War II, Ritz Theatre came to life under the direction of the War Production Board — its construction tied directly to Clinton's proximity to the top-secret facilities at Oak Ridge. When it opened in 1945, it was considered one of the most modern theatres in the entire South.
Sitting proudly on Main Street across from the Anderson County Courthouse, this Art Deco gem has seen generations of Clinton families pass through its doors. Its distinctive architecture — sleek lines, ornate detailing — remains as striking today as it was opening day.
After a storied journey through country music shows and community revivals, Ritz was lovingly restored and reopened for the 21st century. Inside has been refreshed and updated, but the soul of the original 1940s design remains beautifully intact.
Today Ritz shows first-run movies alongside concerts, gospel singings, and community events — keeping Anderson County's tradition of coming together alive, one screening at a time.
